George  has been working professionally as a photographer since he was 16 and is one of the most experienced shooters in the state of Hawaii.  He is a former staff photographer with the Los Angeles Times, a photo editor for the Oakland Tribune and also the St. Paul, MN. Pioneer Press.  He is currently contracted with the Associated Press and is a frequent contributor to the Honolulu Advertiser.  He came to Hawaii to escape the daily grind, and we feel fortunate to have him working for us and to also have him as our friend.  You will, too.

Education

• Three years of journalism and photography training at Ventura Community College in California (1982-84, 1985-86).  Served as photo editor and sports editor on the Ventura College Press.
• 1981 graduate of Santa Paula, Ca. Union High School. Top ten honors.

Recent Newspaper Work

• 3/99 to 7/99-- Deputy Director of Photography for the St. Paul, MN. Pioneer Press (circulation 200,00). Duties included: scheduling of 10 photographers, four image techs and coordination of freelance photographers in the area and around the county; running assignments desk; editing photographers; attending budgeting meetings and assisting with page design.
• 2/97 to 3/99-- Photo editor for ANG Newspapers in San Francisco Bay Area, a collection of five papers, including the Oakland Tribune, with a combined circulation of 240,000. Duties included: scheduling of 17 photographers, five image techs and coordination of free-lancers; assigning all regional shoots and projects; editing photos; and assisting with page design.  Before being promoted, served as chief photographer at the San Mateo County Times, one of the ANG publications.
• 4/95 to 2/97-- Staff photographer for the Napa Valley, Ca. Register (circulation 21,000).  Frequently designed section fronts and photo projects on QuarkXpress.
• 4/94 to 3/95-- Staff photographer for the Texarkana, TX. Gazette (circulation 40,000)
• 5/90 to 8/91-- Full-time photojournalist for the Los Angeles Times.  Worked primarily for the Ventura County edition, but shot for all editions and sections.

Additional Experience

• Free-lance photography for the Associated Press, United Press International, Reuters and Agence France-Presse, Also, did assignments for the New York Times, Washington Post, Detroit Free Press, Dallas Morning News and many other newspapers, as well as People, Time and Sports Illustrated. Have worked with the following photo agencies: Allsport, U.S.A., Gamma/Liaison, Sygma and Sipa Press.
• Corporate, marketing and public relations work for Polaris industries, Hormel and many others.
• Three years as the primary photographer for Silver & Black Illustrated, an Oakland Raiders fan magazine.
• Ran a successful photography business in Hawaii for over two years (1992-94) that catered to tourists. I made sales, ordered supplies, did accounting and handled employees.
• Member of the National Press Photographers Association and former regional contest chairman.
